ABOUT US

Turkish Association for Seismic Isolation (TASI) has been founded in 2006. Among it’s local and international members there are manufacturers, engineering and architectural companies, contractors, academicians, and others who are interested in seismic isolation technologies.

The mission of TASI is to put effort for increasing the awareness and activities of seismic isolation technologies which is an effective way of saving lives and mitigating seismic damages to both structural and non-structural parts of buildings after devastating earthquakes, thus minimizing tangible and intangible losses at both micro- and macro-economic scales.

TASI is a member of ASSISi (Anti-Seismic Systems International Society) which is located in Italy. The ever increasing efforts of TASI includes being the local organizer of the ASSISi 10th World Conference on Seismic Isolation, Energy Dissipation and Active Vibration Control of Structures held in Istanbul in 2007 as well as many other important and reputable activities.

WHAT IS SEISMIC ISOLATION?

It is obvious that current building codes and regulations are in many cases insufficient for a design which is targeted to keep the buildings and facilities functional after an earthquake, thus securing a much higher life safety level as well as minimazing financial losses. One of the most reliable and contemporary technologies in this regard is the EARTHQUAKE ISOLATION (a.k.a. Seismic Isolation or Base Isolation).

If a building owner or occupant wants to get in to the building after an earthquake, no matter how big it is, and keep going with his/her regular life, manufacturing etc. then this building has to be designed as a higher standard than that of the current building codes which in turn makes Seismic Isolation inevitable. The reason is that standard building codes are only enforcing to a miminum level of protection, i.e. life safety only. On the otherhand, a devastating earthquake does not only create physical damage but also economical losses. These losses may go far beyond the structural and non-structural damages which may be repaired in a rather short time; these losses may involve interruption of operations, lack of sustainability in both economical and social aspects, psychological burnouts etc. Unfortunately a lot of companies, organizations, and people are not properly prepared against such harms.

SEISMIC ISOLATION is the technology which allows us to achieve a full sustainability in economics, social management, and daily lives of people.
